Frogparking is proud to announce its ongoing partnership with Kiwi Property to enhance the parking experience at Sylvia Park in Auckland.
Sylvia Park is one of New Zealand’s largest shopping centers, attracting over 12 million visitors annually. As a major retail hub, Sylvia Park’s parking system is vital to ensuring smooth operations and an excellent visitor experience. Kiwi Property recognized this need and approached Frogparking to implement an advanced smart parking system. This multi-year phased rollout has transformed the way parking is managed at Sylvia Park.
The first phase of the project kicked off in August 2016, when Frogparking installed FrogSensors, FrogLPR (license plate recognition cameras), and FrogSigns across several of Sylvia Park’s parking lots. This initial installation focused on providing real-time data on parking availability. With over 4,000 parking spaces to manage, the integration of Frogparking’s technology immediately improved the flow of traffic and reduced congestion.
In November 2016, the partnership expanded with the installation of additional FrogSensors and more FrogLPR cameras. These additions further enhanced parking access control and helped optimize space usage. Then, in March 2020, more FrogSensors were added to Sylvia Park’s growing parking system. By March 2021, FrogSigns were also expanded to provide dynamic guidance to drivers as they navigated the parking lots.
Benefits of FrogSensors in a Smart Parking System
FrogSensors play a key role in the smart parking system at Sylvia Park. These outdoor parking sensors detect individual parking space availability and report this data in real time. By installing these sensors, Sylvia Park can track occupancy and turnover rates. Thus helping Kiwi Property make data-driven decisions about parking policy. The real-time parking data from FrogSensors feeds directly into FrogHub. As a result, our cloud-based parking management platform can be analyzed and used to optimize the use of parking spaces.
The use of FrogSensors also ensures that parking analytics are available at any given time. This information helps Sylvia Park understand peak usage times. Not to mention, manage special events. Further to this, improve the overall customer experience by ensuring parking availability when it’s needed most.
FrogLPR Parking Cameras for Enhanced Parking Access Control
Another critical part of this smart parking system is the installation of FrogLPR. These advanced parking cameras use license plate recognition technology to monitor parking entry and exit points. This helps Sylvia Park manage parking access control, track how long cars are parked and improve enforcement. The parking cameras also enable seamless ticketless parking. As a result, reducing congestion at entrances and makes it easier for visitors to access the parking lots.
FrogLPR cameras work together with FrogSensors to provide comprehensive data on parking occupancy and compliance. The integration of both systems ensures that Kiwi Property has a complete view of parking operations across all 12 parking lots.
Dynamic Signage with FrogSigns for Real-Time Guidance
FrogSigns, our dynamic parking signage solution, was installed at key decision points across Sylvia Park. These signs display live parking availability to drivers as they approach the different lots. The system accumulates data from several lots and shows combined counts. Thus, helping drivers quickly decide where to park. Dynamic signage not only improves traffic flow but also enhances the visitor experience. This is due to reducing the time spent searching for a parking space.
In addition to lot-specific signage, Frogparking installed large monument signs at roundabouts. The aim was to provide drivers with real-time data about space availability across multiple lots. This ensures that visitors can navigate easily through the complex and find available spaces efficiently.
Centralized Management with FrogHub
At the heart of Sylvia Park’s smart parking system is FrogHub, our cloud-based parking management platform. FrogHub centralizes all parking data, making it easy for Kiwi Property to access and analyze parking statistics. This parking software also integrates with external systems, such as third-party car counters, ensuring seamless operation across all technologies.
In 2020, we reconfigured the system to accept counts from third-party sensors, gradually replacing our FrogSensors. However, the live data still flows into FrogHub, maintaining the system’s reliability. In addition, FrogHub exports live data directly to the Kiwi Property website, allowing visitors to view parking availability on an interactive map before they even arrive.
