Auckland International Airport handles 19 million passengers a year and serves thirty international airlines, making it Australasia's third busiest international airport, and international gateway to New Zealand.

With only four employees in the transport team, smart technology plays a big role in automating, providing insights and driving smart business decisions.

In 2015, Frogparking installed an outdoor guidance solution at the international short term parking and drop off zone, to reduce congestion in the drop off aisle and enforce time limits in the short term parking area. Frogparking also installed its indoor guidance solution at the domestic terminal, to guide motorists directly and efficiently to an available parking space and collect data from the carpark.

Frogparking is Auckland International's preferred supplier of parking technology and, since the initial project, Frogparking's solution has been rolled out at five parking locations at Auckland Airport.

Carpark M

Domestic short-term covered & uncovered

Carpark M is Auckland International Airport’s “executive parking” option. A short 1-2 minute walk to the domestic terminal, Carpark M is a high value lot for the airport. Using live & historic data from an initial Frogparking installation in 280 parking bays to determine that more capacity was needed in this area.

Using the data delivered to management by Frogparking, the airport added an additional 544 parking spaces to Carpark M. The airport saw a remarkable 461% return on their investment over a 3 year period.

Carpark A

Short term P90 Meeting/Farewelling

Located at the International Terminal, Carpark A is a short-term option for pick ups or drop offs. Prior to installing Frogparking, motorists had no idea where parking was available. This lead to congestion, low turnovers as people overstayed, which ultimately led to lost revenue. After installing sensors and signage, the results have exceeded expectations:

  • 217 sensors installed
  • 7% reduction in vehicles circulating searching for a space
  • 6.8% increase in vehicles entering the carpark & staying less than 90 minutes
