As Auckland International Airport is the busiest airport located in Auckland New Zealand, having handled over 20 million passengers as at June 2022, it was important that we offered more than just parking equipment – we offered a complete parking management solution.

With a small transport team, and servicing over thirty airlines, a smart parking guidance system, not just ‘parking equipment’ plays a huge role in automating, providing insights, and driving positive business decisions.

Frogparking were thrilled to install a parking system that has shown an incredible 461% return on investment within the first three years since installation.

Initially, as parking of our parking equipment, we installed an outdoor a smart parking guidance system (FrogGuidance) and dynamic directional signage (FrogSigns) in the international short-term and drop-off zones, followed by the domestic terminal and has since been rolled out at five parking locations owned by Auckland Airport.

This automated parking system offered efficiency gains, congestion-management, increased parking revenue and valuable data to assist with peak time traffic management…. we pride ourselves on taking parking equipment, and turning it into an end-to-end solution that offers many unrealized benefits. From parking equipment, to parking software, Frogparking have it all.

Frogparking is Auckland International’s preferred supplier of smart parking guidance systems, and since the initial project, we have been working in partnership with the team to continuously upgrade existing technology.

Project Breakdown

Carpark M
Domestic short-term covered & uncovered Carpark M is Auckland International Airport’s “executive parking” option. A short 1-2 minute walk to the domestic terminal, Carpark M is a high-value lot for the airport. Using live & historical data from an initial Frogparking installation of parking equipment, to determine that additional capacity was needed in this area. Using the data delivered to management by Frogparking, the airport added an additional 544 parking spaces to Carpark M.

Carpark A
Short-term P90 Meeting/Farewelling Located at the International Terminal, Carpark A is a short-term option for pick-ups or drop-offs (transient parkers). Before installing Frogparking parking equipment, motorists had no idea where parking was available. This led to congestion and low turnovers as people overstayed, ultimately leading to lost revenue. After installing sensors and signage, the results have exceeded expectations with a 7% reduction in vehicles circulating searching for a space and a 6.8% increase in vehicles entering the car park & staying less than 90 minutes.

Parking Equipment installed at Auckland Airport

“Uptake from the customers has exceeded our expectations. The system has been very effective at keeping the long-stayers away from the area nearest the terminal. Prior to the install, you’d struggle to find a park near the terminal, now there’s always something available. We are delighted with Frogparking’s wireless solution. It not only gives us a lot of data, but creates a less cluttered environment with clearer, cleaner lighting to direct drivers. Frogparking’s solution are cutting edge, which is one of the reasons we like working with them. If we’ve got a problem, they’ll find a solution and will go above & beyond to deliver it.”
