The Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport (ROC) boasts over 2.6 million annual visitors, resulting in connecting to 23 destinations and over 60 flights daily.

ROC faced persistent congestion challenges and high cruising times as passengers searched for parking.
Additionally, birds nesting on parking equipment presented unique maintenance, safety and operational
difficulties. As a result, ROC required a tailored solution that could address both issues effectively. So we knew, that only a customized parking guidance system was going to work. 

Frogparking were excited to design and develop the world’s first inverted dropper parking guidance system.

Frogparking designed and implemented a customized parking guidance system at ROC, notably, delivering a
groundbreaking, world-first solution. 

Inverted LED droppers: Designed to provide dynamic parking guidance, these inverted “chandeliers” were primarily engineered to prevent bird nesting entirely.

Enhanced LED visibility: Each dropper includes four LEDs, offering greater brightness and clarity compared to
standard solutions with only two LEDs. Likewise, this ensures travelers can easily locate available parking spaces.

Tailored dynamic wayfinding signage: Frogparking customized the signs to align perfectly with ROC’s branding, including design and color matching for a cohesive aesthetic.

Mounted to the ceiling, the customized parking guidance system minimizes movement. Thus improving accuracy rates and providing clear directional guidance. Similarly, this design ensures the system operates seamlessly, even during peak travel periods.

Solving Congestion and Nesting Challenges

Frogparking’s customized solution addressed ROC’s most pressing concerns:

    • Congestion reduction: The dynamic wayfinding system efficiently guides drivers to open parking spots, in particular, reducing cruising times and traffic within the parking facility.
    • Bird-free equipment: The innovative inverted droppers prevent birds from nesting, therefore eliminating maintenance interruptions and safeguarding equipment functionality.

Additionally, Frogparking integrated its system with Mapco via API, enabling real-time parking availability updates directly on the airport’s website. In essence, this integration ensures passengers can plan ahead and locate parking before arriving.
